Let US ALL Look In The Mirror First - Part 3 / Chapter 1

Saharudin B Musthafa
Pengarang Hiburan - Utusan Malaysia
14 tahun dalam industry media
Beliau bertanggungjawab mengarang seksyen Mega di Utusan.

Q1 EE : Dean (i call him) apa pendapat Dean tentang isu 90:10 nih?

A2 Dean : Kita ada banyak material...(by this time i had to interrupt as i needed to make my question clear to him...i told him are u sure kita ada cukup material yang bagus?)...memang kita ada...(i had to interrupt again...and i explained to him of the current scenario we CRM are facing...that theres not enough good new material being produced and soon after he said...) oh ye ke? kita tak tahu pulak pasal tuh (i dont blame him as he doesn't just cover music but a whole lot of other stuff in the entertainment industry...i interrupted him twice PURELY to ensure he's aware of the real scenario...i wasn't trying to sway him to any side or anything like that...)ok kalau itu situasi nya...so kita harus jadikan ini the turning point untuk semua pihak...kita harus tahu kenapa mereka bertindak sedemikian...dan ini memerlukan komitmen dari semua pihak...kita kena ada satu dialog oleh semua pihak yang terlibat...

I also mentioned to him that CRM was supposed to meet Karyawan (which they have agreed to before the petition) on the 22/8 next week to discuss this issue...i don't blame Dean for not knowing this as he wasn't part of it...

Again (same in abg amy's case) i asked his opinion about what the 4 pihaks should do...

1. Persatuan artis.

p/s: terima kasih Dean kita banyak belajar perkataan baru hari ni...for my riders information Dean ni cakap sikit punya laju...so throughout the phoner (phone interview) i had to ask him to slow down a few times...Thanks again Dean...

Alamak! Engku, Engku...
Where and How did you find the time to do all this!?

You're already the COO of SuriaFM and vice-president of CRM, which is taxing enough.

Then you're also Erra Fazira's `worse half' (since the wife is the `better' half, kan?). This, I'm fairly sure, takes up another significant chunk of your time and energy.

No, no... I don't mean `that'-lah; kepada "yae dok mikir kok lain" ;-) I mean, in also being involved with some of her activities (like accompanying her to some function or another) ... plus keeping in touch with your family and hers.

(I'm just making an intelligent guess here, for I've never been married to an artiste before - famous or otherwise. BUT I might, who knows. Haha! Just kidding - let's continue...)

And your blog here. Yes, others have blogs too, but yours seems to have turned `fully professional' - not just with regular posts, but especially with the content. Most others with similar workloads would be content with just three or four paragraphs at the most.

But yours ... What can I say, except that "You'll make some fulltime entertainment journalists look bad". And I'm only half joking here.

So, I must say this: I, as one of your `riders', really appreciate the efforts you've put in. And I'm sure many others here feel the same way.

You have taken us all here seriously; and have treated us here as "intelligent people worth spending time on". You can be funny and witty, and also serious and thoughtful when the occasion calls for it.

Thanks for giving so much of your time, Engku.

P/S: I hope the time spent on this is not at the expense of your wife and immediate family. Nothing is more important than her and family; that's my firm opinion. Sorry for this unsolicited piece of advice - I tend to do this with people whom I think I like. Had made a lot of mistakes here; so this lesson was paid for "in sweat and blood".

- An "Abang" who is still learning.

it is a simple equation... good material, lagu sedap surely orang dengar... bak kata Allahyarham Sudirman, "lagu tamil kalau dengar hari-hari pun jadi sedap..."

sekarang saya banyak dengar lagu-lagu indonesia seperti Samson, Letto, Ari Lasso dll. Mana pergi lagu-lagu seperti Sweet Charity, Kembara, Alleycats, Black Dog Bone, Carefree dll.

Kepada pengiat seni tempatan, produce what people want to listen and not suka-suka hati korang je...

Produce music what people want. Kadang2 seni ni bukan comoditi. Citarasa manusia berbeza. Tapi kalau penggiat seni terpaksa membuat material mengikut pendapat populis, ikhlaskah kerjanya?

Buat Engku Emran, aku tabik sama engkau yg carik masa memahami isu ini dan share kat kitorang. You have a nice day and jangan lupa utk relax. Penting beb utk relax.

Sometimes, I wonder what do the local artists have against their Indonesian counterparts? I'm just wondering, I don't want to judge or anything.

I guess we can learn a lot from them and having a positive exchange of ideas or talents sure beats making war against each other, eh. Well, that's me being idealistic, I guess.

No doubt some of the local talents here are amazing. Look at Adibah Noor, Jaclyn Victor, Noryn Aziz, they can very well face off against Uthie, KD or Titi DJ for sure. But it seems that we're stuck in a rut when it comes to materials.

I miss the 80's and 90's when I was still a kid, but the music was very good and memorable.

Music shouldn't be formulaic, which is why I respect the indie bands for going against the norm and making their talent known in their own special way.

I guess why Indonesian music is more preferable by people is not because they listen to only ONE type of music, like SO7 or Samsons or whatever but overall, the music is good, the arrangement is excellent at times, it amaze me.

Example, the song Aku dan Dirimu by Ari Lasso and Bunga C. Lestari. The lyrics is simple, not too complex, not too jiwang, but the MUSIC moves me. It touches me deep in the heart and I feel for it.

How do they do it? I often wonder when it comes to Indonesian music.

Regards,

Votre ami

Calls after calls and sometime it takes about more than 3 months sebab artis itu artis baru dan belum ada nama dan komposer semua sibuk

Conclusion

4. Pihak komposer kena kreatif banyak kan ilham ilham yang bole diterima semua.

Salam.

Just out of my curiosity, are those in CRM qualified to determine what songs are good quality songs and what songs are not? Are there any song writers, lyricists, music academics in CRM?
ERA has made a mistake when they first refuse to play Ketentuan by Ramlah Ram on their radio. And many disapprove Kudsia Kahar when she was one of the AF judges.

I still believe that 90:10 will work or maybe you could discuss at a more lineant rate maybe 80:20. Give it a try la bro... why dont you give Karyawan or who ever that brought up the proposal a probation time. Lets try for like 4-5 months with this 90:10 and see if theres any significant reduction in numbers of listeners or not. But... all radio must take part because if Suria alone, definitely it wont work.

All da bess.

hi peminat erra soal hati...nope crm reps are people from radio stns...so no lyricists etc...cos its a radio association...i understand where ur coming from but 90:10 is just impossible...im not being premature here as i always try to be fair with anything i do...fyi we at suria r currently doing 70:30...even that we r struggling to fill the local space...sometimes certain radio have their own reasons (valid ones) for not playing certain songs (in ur case of kak ramlah)...but suria we do play her songs as we don't see any issue with that...likewise there r also some songs that we don't play but our competitors do...yes i must say (and I'm being honest here) we do have qualified people in crm to determine so...we dont simply say ur song is good or ur song is not so good...we do research on songs which is called auditorium testing...u will be surprised (some very embarrasing too) with some of the feedback we received for certain songs...so lets be fair to all here...lets talk first before we come up with anything like a petition...we need to address the real problem...until and unless we do so...our industry will not progress..

Yup everthing what you said i right.. aku rindu zaman bila Search and all the rockers..zaman kegemilangan MNasir.. infact zaman 4u2c dan KRU.. semua lagu diorang ni terasa sampai meremang bulu roma.. dan ada lagu yg membawa perubahan seperti KRU,ofcourse Amy Search..

Tapi kecewanya sekarang paling banyak lagu menjiwang tak sudah yang balik-balik ikut tune melodi yg sama je.. memang aku tukar station radio bila lagu-lagu ni kuar.. kadang-kadang tu tutup terus..

Kenapa tak ramai artis malaysia yg buat lagu sendiri?? Kudos to Aizat walaupun baru tapi berjaya kerana kesungguhan.Tak salah kita ikut trend penyanyi luar kerana muzik is global dan memang dari dulu lagi muzik Malaysia dipengaruhi oleh artis luar..tetapi mengecewakan lagu yg keluar dari artis tempatan tak sampai tahap yg membanggakan.. keluar album ada satu lagu hit macam mana nak hidup beb (pinjam tagline amy search)..

Betul la sekarang label company pun dah tak buat talent scouting dah sekarang trend mengharap Program Realiti to produce the next generation..walaupun bagus tapi keluar 40 dari Program realiti hanya 5 saja yg bagus..Mawi,Aizat,Kaer,Zahid,Adam yang lain tu Record Comapany tak pandai guna kelebihan suara macam Yazer (sayang kemersikan suara dia di abaikan kalaulah MNasir dalam produce lagu utk Yazer mesti meletup)...

So Engku Bro i dont care what song u play in your radio station, dari indon ke amarika ke india ke china ke thailand ke filipino ke asalkan all those songs have quality then I SALUTE YOU..

Kalau Karyawan nak sangat airtime asked Minister and RTM to order all their Radio Stations banyak channel tu to aired all MALAYSIAN Artis ONLY because those radios are funded by MALAYSIAN..dont force Private Radio Station to do that because their coming into the industry to entertain us and also makes some money..

Betul tak? sapa sokong saya angkat tayar motor belakang...
