Snapshot - A Few Good Men

I enjoy meeting up with nice new people and listen to what life experience have made them to be...earlier this evening i chanced upon 2 great men (chances of this happening are very far and few between) introduced to me by my company director over dinner...one is a retired doctor and the other a successful but low profile businessman...

You see...i always get excited when i meet these kind of people simply because i know i can learn a lot from just chatting with them...both men are very articulate...from the way they speak i could tell that they are well read and travelled gentlemen...mind you they are the type who look at you when they say something...and by doing so they make you feel important and most significantly respected...priceless!...

I'm prolly half their age to say the least...any tom dick and harry at that age could've just ignored me or couldn't bother to take me seriously...but you know what...never a second did they not pay attention to what i was sharing with them of my views (we were talking about politics btw)...i thoroughly enjoyed their company this evening...wish there were many more men like them...

It was a great pleasure meeting you sirs!...

Salam, EE
U r absolutely right. There r only a few good men out there, who would appreciate others. But I would always believe that in life what we give is what we will get back.

salam engku,

you're absolutely correct. And I believe It doesn't come often.

People like this comes with tons of experience "tacit knowledge" and it requires such a skill to learn from them.

Yup now it is very hard to get into someone to have a meaningful chat.. now either it is all rubbish talk or totally bias talk..

But sometime listening to all those crap make you wonder the thinking level (otak kayu ke otak cerdik ke) of the person..

Still i enjoy it very much

Its bizarre when you meet others for the first time and to find that they're full of enthusiasm and sincere in the conversation.People need to know ethics to be able to do this.

Staying in a foreign country, I experience that several times.

The best thing abt that is you feel appreciated!

coolness! :)

I don't think so, Engku.
It's hard for anyone to ignore someone who is the COO of some national radio station... :-)

BTW, I'm impressed with your English; plus your `maturity', Engku (I'm older, but not necessarily "more mature" than you; if you folks know what I mean).

I had looked at your profile ... Not to be a busy-body (oh, okay; I AM one), but can you tell us something about your education, please? Your level of English - it indicates "tertiary education overseas" ... "voracious reader" ...

This is as philosophical as it gets...
YES, I think you're on to something here. Combine both types and we'll have a formidable internal and personal base of knowledge and wisdom.

But there's one big problem; at least with me: I seem to REPEAT some mistakes, again and again. Sometimes I wonder what it takes to drum it into my head...

Hi cendana287...i knew some1 wud say/think something like dat...honestly cendana287 those 2 gentlemen didn't know anything about me (a part from when i introduced myself to them in the beginning as emran) until just before i wanted leave when they ask for my biz card...and to be fair to them...my sincere opinion after a few moments into the chit chat i could tell they were genuinely "a few good men"...read accountancy in the uk...

[There seems to be some trouble with Blogger.com's https. Have been trying to send this comment since noon]

I think this is one major factor that contributes towards one's success: the ability to listen to others

It's not as easy as it sounds - if one does not have it, then he does not have it-lah. And it's not something that you can "buat-buat".

There's this thing inside humans - ego. With it comes things like "pride", "prejudice", "suspicion" etc. Many people don't really listen to others because of these ... prevented by the feeling that they "are better", "more experienced", "richer" etc.

Oh, they `seem to listen'; nodding their head and all. But what others say, `don't go inside them' ... they don't accept it; macam daun keladi.

As such, these two men you mentioned are special indeed.

"Accountancy"... Looks like my guess was way off. I had thought it was something like ... oh, related to the arts; mass communications, esp. Or business administration. It proves one thing - memang payah to be accurate about someone:-)
