Snapshot - I Need Help

I'm currently trying to create a new radio program and toying with afew ideas for that purpose... You see...alot of research and study goes into the process before anything is put on air...so for something new to be part of the offering in a month's time the hard work will have to start now...listeners' preference and perception is key so i would like my readers to be part of this exciting process of conceptualising...please feel welcome to throw ideas at me...to me theres no such thing as good or bad ideas...simply ideas ARE ideas...so guys i'm listening...

Let me know what your unmet needs are...

Emran, what about a show that runs like a blog. The host tells interesting story - it can be of anything - real or fiction. Listeners may have different grasp/intake on the issue and and walk away hopefully with some life lessons for the day. It'd be purely what the audience make it out to be, none imposed. It would be difficult to navigate but then again that would also be the strength of the show, a challenge - creating something out of nothing. Every time it airs, a listener do not know what to expect but hopefully walk away with something profound and deep. The show be a personal and private matter - kind of like a confession -, for all to eavesdrop in as opposed to taking calls and interacting. Naturally, people are of curious nature, mystery never fails to attract. A bit long here, so hope this would spark more ideas. And frequent breaks with series of music or tunes, in-sync with the topic/ mood of the day/night (and of course). Hope this help.

Mr EE, u could create a 'Segmen Wanita'. Open to women listeners on various topics that interest women eg: health, fashions, education, etc. Invite relevant/prof guests to d studio who can motivate, give prof advices on various topics. Just like those programs on tv but Suriafm could do it via radios! Hahaha, ur Mrs defenitely could do much on this matter, I mean as invited guest la!!!

Mr Emran

Salam to you.

Being in the States for 15 years, it has thought me that information is powerful. I have been fortunate enough to be able to listen to different views from Liberals, Conservatives and in-betweens on topics such as government, politics and socio-ecocnomy. While Suria FM is an entertainment (I think) station, I believe it would be beneficial for you to create a section geared towards the topics above. Hire a DJ/Host that is fair minded and able to talk about these topics intelligently. Let people call in to express their views either positive or negative. With the current ecocnomic and political climate in Malaysia, I am very sure a lot of people would like to convey their views (I might be wrong). As the MD of Suria (I might be wrong here as well), I am sure you are worried about ratings. However, I believe if you allow the show to talk about current events with minimal cencorship, you will have a lot of listeners.

-- Good Luck

hi johnny utah...that's a great idea...but unfortunately what CAN work in other liberal countries (like US & UK) may not be possible to be implemented here...cheers fr the suggestion tho...keep in touch..

like the idea of "me said".My idea is,create a segment 4 teenagers, especially those with problems. Not all of them have reliable families and friends to talk to.By letting them communicate and share their problem with other listeners,we are,in a way, helping them to ease their burden.

Engku Emran said...

hi edzlin007...thnx fr the gd idea...

Engku Emran said...

oops sorry intan...my last response was meant for u...teenagers are definitely a gd area to focus on...

Hi Engku Emran,

I never listen to Suria FM when I was in Malaysia, now I'm working as an engineer in Saudi Arabia. I don't know what's the concept or motto of this radio station. Anyway, I feel that every radio station should have it's own concept or motto. That will distinguish the station from others.

I suggest that Suria FM have motto like 'Serious With Music, Easy with Life!'. By having this concepts the DJ should play only the greatest hits of all time. For example, create a 2 hour section where you play only the No 1 songs from previous charts. This will show how serious the station is with the song selection. The Djs can talk about the songs and update the listeners when the songs reach no 1, the age of the singer at that time and also the achievement etc

The station should not talk about traffic jams, price of fuel, pollution, tips to healthy life, fashion, education etc. The listener need to have a station where they will laugh, feel relax and enjoy the musics played. Most people listen to radio when they are on the way to work or driving back home. Enough serious stuff during work or in their life. Give them something which will make their mind easy.

Ask the listener to call and shout as loud as they can to release their stress. Caller who shout the loudest, give them gift.

DJ's need to give jokes or provide interesting trivia which will make the station stand as easying the listeners life.

I can write more example but I think I better stop now before you start to yawn.

What do you think?

Serious with music, easy with life?

P/S any vacancy in your think tank team?

Like most people in the city, my radio times are limited to the hours I spend in the car on to and from work.
During that hour or so in the car, I look for a station that plays good music (individual's personal taste), information (especially traffic news), jokes (short and sweet), DJ's individualism (no shouting or too much on his/her personal views).
Sorry to say I havent tuned to Suria yet (will do so this evening since I just got the 105.3 addy.
Will let u know what I think of it.

salam abg emran,

i quite agree wit what kak lynn said about segmen wanita, n also bout inviting kak erra as the guest..i think i t a nice idea, at a same time kak erra can be the attraction not bcoz she is your wife but as a guest n for the next episode invite other woman artist as a guest also..kira mcm every time rancangan tu on air akan ada sorang artis wanita sbgai jemputan..

Engku Emran said...

hi sakura...terima kasih n terus la menyokong kami k...belajar rajin2 tau...

hi akumangkok...many thnx for ur honest comment appreciate much...have a go n let me know k...

hi marinahunny...yea women do come with useful ideas all the time...

Engku Emran said...

hi jakfar...GREAT idea...sori im not able to publish ur comment to deter copycats...but anyway i think u came up with such an interesting suggestion...since ur overseas u can still listen to us via www.suriafm.com.my

Marinahunny, what I hv in mind is the prog is like NONA on tv. Maybe from mon to fri for one hour in between music/songs, a topic will be discussed. Eg: Mon - topics on fasions; Tues - Education; Wednes - health; Thurs - general (family affairs, hubungan suami/isteri, anak, friends, inlaws, etc); Fri - agama - religious talks

Topics be discussed by many people from diff walks of life. Takut pula kalau asyik artist aje, nanti ade yg meluat gak. Tau aje, manusia bukan boleh puaskan hati semoa. Kiranya kalau ade kelainan, pasti ramai yg mendengar, tak gitu Mr. EE? Ade juga saingan wat stsn lain. But sadly, di Sarawak masih tak ade liputan Suriafm lah!!!!

hi emran, i name my little bby daniel emran.... :-) he's only 3 month old now. a few suggestion
1) counceling session - apa2 lah sakit puan / tuan. or remaja or familys.
2) parenting - babies / todler talk anything.... may be artis can shared the way the bring up their babies, artis ni bukan apa to attract an attention je
those are my suggestion ..... here goes my comment.....
i don't listen to radio that much but i do tune to all radio while i'm driving to work....
\but Suria DJ's suka ckp bnyk sngt lah rather then putting info... pagi2 i think it is good if suria can share some paper reading like what MHI buat kan... so we can have some knowledge plus good music to listen to... rather then ckp2 kosong and merepek.
DJ's that work in the morning, must be informative and intertenting, that share what they do yesterday.
Emran pernah dgr Kharil & selan paul dulu2 tak or khairil n kiran baru2 ni.... they area good Dj's buat listen wanted to hear fron them every morning, so if my suggestion is that kaji apa yg dia ada and develop our Dj to be like them.... tak same who knows much better ke.....

finally, emran boleh masuk konti ke, build ur own program, u know mcm boss on air, 1/2 jam pun oklah...
ni nak elak listener jemu dgn DJ yg ada.... 1 minggu sekali dah lah....nanti bila i ada idea lagi i bagitau ok....

hi annonymous...gd to know i share the same name with ur baby and same spelling too! Sori fr not being able to publish ur ideas...again tak mau orang copy laa...cheers...would like to meet baby daniel emran one day...

Hye Emran.. Just call me King5zal.. we met in 2006 and during fasting month, I and few artist including CD Naz, Kristal and Karyawan...we went to Orphanage School somewhere Banting. I saw your effort and the way you yourself help cleaning, painting and helping us to make the orphanage school a better place, really makes me respect you.

Bro, time goes bye very fast. I went for the official launching of Suria fm at the building next to your office... (hotel next door) and during that time, u was not with Suria Fm yet.. I always give my fullest support to your DJ like Bob Ringgo...Dj Azreen, Dj Zafrina, Dj K dll.... I visited your conti few times and looking forward to give my support towards you and SuriaFM.

Enough for the long flasback hehehe..Come back to how could you make SuriaFm new programmes attract more listeners...

1) you can make quizes... about Malaysia...historical places..hobbies..about bikes ( I use to ride Superbikes before.. year 1995 to 2001 Kawasaki Ninja ZXR750 L model)

Dear Mr EE,

When I was a kid, I can still remember there was a programme on radio which did a review on current and upcoming movies eg the actors / gossip / storyline etc and they always kept playing the movie theme songs. So, grew up having Star Wars, Grease, Raiders O.T.L.A and Conan (to name a few) theme song jingling in my head.

By the way MR EE, tuan masih ingat the famous parking lot hostel college di Cheras which of course no longer therelah. I was there too.

Engku Emran said...

hi annonymous...yup ofcoz i do! not many people can claim theyve stayed in a parking lot before kan?...what year were u there?

Anonymous said...

I was there 1992 - 1994 before went to UK. Remember vividly roof top tennis court and to run like hell to ground floor when the ball went over the fence..

hi annonymous...ya la...i remember chasing the bola takraw too!...

Halo Che Em'.. My suggestion..

As u know, blogger now have their influence.
5. Segmen petua dan nasihat ke..
6. Motivasi pagi..
7. Balik kampung dengan skuad Suria FM ke..
8. Segmen terjah artis ke..
9. Tak pun u buat satu segmen untuk komposer-komposer jalanan ni perdengarkan hasil lagu diorang. Kesian beb, takde platform nak naik..

Tapi as a radio listener, my prefered segmen will be something mild and not too aggressive. I tak suka nak dengar gossip2 artis and actually kalau I dengar Melodi kat TV3 tu, I selalu skip segmen gossip. Tak menarik langsung..

oh.
conduct a survey first.
boleh buat segmentation.
then baru boleh tau what the target audience really want.
who prefer what blablablabla.

more outdoor activities.
(read: peminat suka freebies, hiburan percuma dan suasana ceria dan menghiburkan)

promo kene lagi aggressive.lagi aggressive lagi senang org kenal

i think pinjam idea from international radio station pun OK kan?like something new yang the competitors tak buat lagi.

songs' selection kat suria fm dah best, cuma sometimes takde aura for me to stick to suria fm.
*ampunnnnn!

good luck!

sekian,pandangan biasa2 dr saya.

:)

Hi Emran,
Just sedikit ideas ... why not u buat lain dari yang lain dari radio2 lain dah buat ... u buat setiap hari akan akan ader segmen yg berlainan ... act benda ni pon dh dibuat cume lately nih xder yg spesifik ... my suggestion u buat utk hari khamis mlm jumaat u buat lebih kepada rancangan keagamaan dalam care kontemporari .. topic pagi plak i sokong johny utah which is u hired intelligent deejay maybe not so called intelligent but aware dgn issue semasa including pilitics topic ... maybe memang ramai org ckp tmpt kiter x sesuai why don't u break the rules ... lagipun setiap panggilan tue buleh ditapiskan ... so indirectly pepagi tue ramaila nanti pemikir2 leh dgr stesyen u ... malam pulak naper x buat segmen surat pendengar luahan hati ... nampak mcm segmen stesyen radio dulu2kan ... memang konsep mcm dulu tapi u bleh selarikan dengan keadaan sekarang ... banyak lagik idea nih ... ceh!! mcm poyo jer nak kasik semua idea kan ... hehehe ... anyway good luck to you ..

If you know the concept of "Pay it Forward", you can apply it through a radio.

Open the flood gates and these are the types of answers you'll get. Some are good, some are bad ... and some just plain brainless! FYI, great music - that's the way to go. Heck, you can't go wrong with playing great music around the clock. At least, that way you'd lower your overhead. On a more practical side; ask yourself this pertinent question - when your are stuck in a traffic jam what would you like to listen to on the radio? Provided of course you are of the target age - voila that's your answer. Easy Peasy!

Assalamualaikum, about ideas tu, apa kata you gunakan Abon as filler untuk bagi tips tentang lalulintas ke, hal ehwal semasa ke, general knowledge ke, apa apa je lah yang boleh buat kitorang hilang tension masa driving. Especially during morning/evening rush hour. Terhibur gak dengar 'slang' jawa Abon tu...

Hi EE...been enjoying your chatterings for a while so i suppose i might as well return the favour.

I remember a time not too long ago when driving/riding outstation is a joy. destination notwithstanding, the journey itself is something u look forward too.

However, in recent time, i noticed that this is no longer the case.

One of the main reasons?, i would say it lies with the lack or even total ignorance of road etiquette. Would be too long for me to try to explain but i suppose you'd understand.

So i would like to suggest that your new radio program be focussed on road usage and it's etiquettes.

Make it fun and breezy. who knows, the new road users might find it trendy to be well mannered on the road.

Simple things like having yr headlights adjusted high could blind oncoming driver/rider and even contribute to accidents.

Either way, good luck with the new show..... and others as well.

Btw, i started reading yr blog due to d sterling recommendation from ahmad a talib in his blog.

Dear Mr EE
I'm one of Suria fans from Singapore :)
How about create something like "Wakenabeb" but versi radio? Perhaps pendengar boleh send in their requests to kenakan their frens/beloved ones on their special days eg. birthdays/anniversary etc ? Song dedications tend to be boring at times :-P
Just a thought though ...
Enjoy your wkend ....
